Ice Storm!

Thursday Night we got hit by a hell of an Ice Storm! Trees snapping off under the weight of frozen ice clinging their branches.
Trees across the driveway blocking us from even getting out!
Power is still out, and I hear it could be as long as Tuesday before we get it back.

Living without the convenience of Electricity is always interesting. It can even be a little fun, when it last a day. Longer then that, and the impact is pretty significant, especially in the winter.

My wife and I built my house a year and a half ago on our 17 acres in Western Massachusetts. On a side note, that was one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of my life. You often hear the saying "Build a house, loose a spouse." But my wife and I had a great time.

During the construction, the Phone Company, who is in charge of placing poles, jerked us around and around and as a consequence, no pole meant no power. So I built the house with a generator. Since I had the generator, I had my Electrician put in a panel that would let me run the house on it, when the power goes out.

Only problem, last time I tried to get it started, I failed.

I hauled it out of the shed, dragged it (Two flat tires) across the yard, around the back of the house into position. I dumped a thing a dry gas into the tank and started pulling on the cord.
To my surprise, I got it started up after only 30 or 40 pulls.

So we ran the generator for 8 hours last evening.
Still no phone, and still no internet... well what do I do with my time.

I drove out of the hills into the nearest large town to find a little internet, my world right again.
